When students are enjoying a lesson it shows. It shows in their attention levels, in the effort they put in and the results they achieve. The Education Programme at Madame Tussauds London offers maximum educational value through unique and stimulating learning experiences.

Some of the best lessons are outside the classroom

It's amazing what you can achieve in just one day away from the classroom. With such a unique background, Madame Tussauds provides an educational venue that cannot be recreated in the classroom. Our exciting Educational Programme for Key Stages 1 and 2 truly brings learning to life.

Madame Tussauds Educational Programme

Working in collaboration with practicing teachers and educational advisers, we have created a programme of events and activities for pupils of Key Stages 1 and 2. With so much to see and experience, and supported by our educational resources, Madame Tussauds provides an outstanding environment to stimulate your students' imaginations.

At Madame Tussauds we've got it covered: we can help with risk assessment, free teacher visits prior to your trip and educational resources to help you get the most out of the day. Importantly, your pupils can take part in various structured activities that are linked to the National Curriculum and specific programmes of study.

Madame Tussauds - Studio Secrets - The Show

Studio Secrets - The Show

Our 'Studio Secrets' show, specifically designed to complement the Art and Design curriculum, will give your pupils a behind-the-scenes insight into how our portraits are created.
"Studio Secrets" will run every Monday to Friday during school term time, starting at 10.30 until 12.20. Shows start promptly so we request that all schools please arrive in plenty of time before the start of the show. Late arrival is likely to impact on your show experience, understanding of the content and the enjoyment of other schools."

Pupils are invited to join the renegades on an adventure where they will discover how the attraction was founded back in the 18th century by Madame Tussaud before learning the secrets of how our portraits are made.

To truly get a hands-on experience, pupils will be involved in three interactive workshops, each lasting 15 minutes, and taught about the different materials we use to create our incredible likenesses including how we recreate skin tone and hair and how we work with hundreds of precise measurements to ensure the physical accuracy of our portraits.

Workshop One: Hair, Eyes, Teeth & Costume

This session covers the process of how information is gathered for the creation of hair, eyes, teeth and costume in order to complete the finished look of a figure. The use of materials will be explained and the processes those materials require. A demonstration of hair insertion will be given, along with examples of costume, eyes and teeth.

Workshop Two: Colouring

Workshop Two looks at the process of colouring a figure and the use of acrylic and oil based paints. We will also explore paint techniques, layering and building colour to achieve realistic skin tones.

Workshop Three: Sculpting

To truly understand how we create our figures, we discuss the process of gathering information for the creation of a figure and how the form is created using various materials. The next process involves sculpting in clay, mould making and forming and finally how wax is used to create a likeness.

Throughout the workshops, pupils will be encouraged to be involved in the various processes from simply being asked to volunteer to participate in their very own Tussauds sitting, right through to actively being able to take part in some of the various stages that go towards creating a portrait.

Returning to the Stardome, pupils will be able to unlock the Studio Secrets for themselves, seeing how we apply modern digital technology to our exhibits making Madame Tussauds a truly interactive world-wide attraction, whilst having some fun with our characters along the way. Finally, there's the opportunity to ask questions and time for packed lunches to be eaten in the Stardome before moving on to visit the rest of the attraction.

The Studio Secrets Show incorporates exciting audio and visual effects which includes some strobe lighting

As well as allowing you to provide your students with emergency contact details, timings and meeting points; our information sheets contain useful park information including the location of Lost Property, First Aid Centres and All Day Lockers.

Simply download the Information Sheet for Schools template, fill in the relevant information and then distribute photocopies to your students prior to your arrival.
